Stephen A. Smith apologizes, but ESPN whiffs on opportunity to ’embrace debate’

Three days after his controversial statements about Ray Rice and domestic violence, Stephen A. Smith was back on ESPN2, making a solemn three-minute apology at the start of First Take before the program oddly transitioned into a discussion about LeBron James.

“On Friday, speaking right here on First Take on the subject of domestic violence, I made what can only amount to the most egregious error of my career,” Smith said in a taped segment at the top of the show, referencing his comments that seemed to suggest women provoke men into domestic violence.     While the apology is noted, Smith needs to develop a deeper understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence so that he can effectively advocate against it. My hope is that he will take the opportunity to do so. http://wp.me/s29TuL-apology

      Tamara I agree with your comment. Although the situation is a terrible one, it is one that has brought domestic violence to the fore front and should be discussed before something else hits the media and it is forgotten about.
